Planning a vacation can be a challenging task. When you sit down with your significant other, your children, other family members or friends and begin discussing where to go on a vacation, it can present a variety of questions. How much will it cost? What is there to do? Are there activities for everyone? Is the vacation destination you choose a place everyone will like? These are only a few of the questions to consider.
Below are some important reasons why a cruise vacation is right for you.
For single passengers you will not be alone. Many of the cruise lines have a ‘singles get together’ meet and greet. This provides single cruisers a chance to become friends with other passengers during the cruise so they can spend time dining, dancing, laying out by the pool, taking shore excursions, and enjoying the shows together. As a single traveler you can also decide if you want to dine alone or at a larger table where you will definitely become friends with other passengers. Before you know it you will be sharing the events of your day with your new-found friends. You will find that cruise passengers are a very friendly group of people.
Cruise ships are very family friendly. The cruise lines offer extensive kids activities depending on the age group your child is in. Age groups for children’s activities are divided into categories for kids under 5, kids 5-8, kids 9-12, and teenagers. Activities range from video games, scavenger hunts, ping-pong tournaments, board games, arts and crafts, and many other activities depending on the age group. The children will like the kids club activities so much that it will give parents time to do what they want to do on the cruise. Parents can then enjoy a show in the theater, watch a movie under the stars on the Lido Deck, attend port lectures, take a tour of the Bridge, or any number of other various activities. The possibilities are endless.
Cruises are a great value for the money. One of the best reasons to take a cruise vacation is because cruises are a great value. Many cruises start at less than $100 per person per day. The rates are discounted for 3rd and 4th passengers in the same cabin. When you consider that your cruise fare includes your room, meals, daytime and evening entertainment, and transportation to many exotic destinations, the value really adds up.
You only have to unpack once. When you make a cruise reservation you will be assigned a cabin. This is your cabin for the entire cruise. Unlike vacations on land with multiple destinations, on a cruise vacation you unpack once and will not have to pack again until the end of your cruise.
Cruise ships come in all sizes. There are so many cruise ships that you can sail on. The sizes range from river barges and upscale yachts that have less than 300 passengers to the larger mega ships that have more than 5,000 fellow passengers. The ideal cruise ship for one person may be the smaller intimate ships with an upscale ambiance while other cruisers prefer the mega-ships outfitted with onboard rock-climbing walls, water slides, several pools, and an outdoor movie theater. The choice is yours.
There is a variety of on-board activities for you. Today’s cruise ships are designed to keep everyone happy. You can start your day at the spa while your spouse hits some golf balls at the onboard driving range? You and your significant other or friends can lounge in the sun reading a book while other family members play some miniature golf. You can go to a wine tasting, an educational lecture, take dance lessons, compete in a slot tournament in the casino, take a tour of the bridge, learn a new language, take a yoga class, or get a much-needed workout in the gym. You can wake up in the morning and have breakfast delivered to your room and dine al fresco on your balcony. You can also have meals at a casual buffet or in a fancy sit-down restaurant. You can even opt for meals at a sushi bar, a diner or a steakhouse. In the evening you can watch a movie out on deck, see a live broadway style show in the theater, or visit one of the lounges and see a comedy routine. If you simply want to do nothing while the ship sails from port to port, you can do that too.
You can stay connected with the world while out at sea. Don’t be concerned about being stranded in the middle of the ocean. Cruise ships have everything you could possibly want on board. Today’s vessels have Wi-Fi, cell service, computers for you to use, and satellite TV so you can stay in touch with the real world during your cruise.
Everyday conveniences are available. The shops onboard sell toiletries, the medical center can provide medicines or doctor’s services, and the laundry facilities allow you to wash your clothes mid-cruise (so you don’t need to over-pack). Dry cleaning services are available too.
Cruises are romantic. Taking a stroll in the middle of the ocean with a full moon in the sky, there is nothing more romantic. Many cruises have honeymoon packages available. You can have roses delivered to your stateroom or a cake presented at dinner if you are celebrating a special occasion or simply because you are in love. If you want to dine alone be sure to request a table for two at dinner. You can also share side-by-side lounge chairs by the pool, dance in the evening under the stars, or spend quality time in an exotic port of call. All of these are excellent ways to rekindle the romance. When many of us think of romantic cruising, the first image that comes to mind is the TV show “The Love Boat” that took place on board the Pacific Princess. Click here to view Princess Cruises Offers
Cruise ships visit many ports. You can sail to the Caribbean, Alaska, Mexico, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Asia, Northern Europe, the Mediterranean, Africa, Antarctica, or French Polynesia. If you can’t decide, you can take a World Cruise and visit all seven continents. There are many excellent cruise lines and voyages to choose from. Ports of call range from major cities to local villages and everything in between. The ships will offer a variety of shore excursions to help immerse you into the culture of a particular destination.
In my lifetime I have taken many cruises. I have sailed on small ships and large ships. I have cruised as a single passenger, cruised with my spouse on our honeymoon, and cruised with my spouse and children. I have even cruised as part of a large group that had eight families traveling together and everybody had such wonderful time. I have sailed with many cruise lines ranging from economical to more upscale, and on cruises known for having lots of kids. Whatever the cruise, one thing I can honestly say is that I have had a great time on every sailing that I have been on. A cruise really is the perfect vacation.
