Las Vegas, Nevada, located in Nevada’s Mojave Desert, is a resort city known for its vibrant nightlife, luxuriously themed Hotels, 24-hour casinos and many entertainment options. Las Vegas Boulevard is the main street, more famously known as ‘The Strip” and it is over 4 miles long.
We arrived in Las Vegas for a 3 night vacation. Our journey includes us participating in the United States Bowling Championships which is held in Las Vegas approximately every three years. We arrived at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas and when we exited the plane we could hear the sounds of slot machines. We discovered that slots are located throughout the airport terminals and even located in the baggage claim area (see pictures below) The layout of the airport is excellent and everything including the gates, the baggage claim area, and the ground transportation counters were easy to find. Hearing the slots inside provided the excitement we were anticipating Las Vegas would bring us. We exited the airport and took a shuttle to the hotel we were staying at located in the Fremont Street District. Fremont Street is located on the northern section of The Strip. As we were riding to the hotel we were amazed by the many giant themed hotels. The large elaborate displays that include fountains synchronized to music, replicas of an Egyptian pyramid, an Eiffel Tower, and the Venetian Grand Canal. Everything in Las Vegas is elaborate and impressive.
This was our first time in Las Vegas. We stayed on Fremont Street because of its location to the Cashman Center where the bowling tournament is taking place. Freemont Street provides a great atmosphere during the day and it really comes alive at night. The glitz and glamour of the Casino Resorts with their flashing lights, dynamic shows, and casinos added to the excitement. The resorts and hotels located throughout Las Vegas are very well planned and self-contained. They have thought of everything. Selecting which hotel to stay at will be the hardest decision you will have to make. In Las Vegas you will find hotel themes that include replicas of Paris, Venice, Luxor, and New York Other hotels range from the elaborate to many hotel chains you are familiar with. Find the best hotel in Las Vegas now! The object for the larger hotels is to provide you with everything you need so you will never want to leave. If you enjoy gambling the hotels have a casino with slot machines and video poker machines plus other electronic games of chance. The machines range from penny slots to $5 machines. If your prefer table games there is Roulette, Poker, Blackjack, Craps, Let It Ride, Pai Gow Poker, and Baccarat. The casinos even have cocktail servers there to bring you drinks so you don’t have to leave your slot machine or table. Looking for live performance entertainment? Yes your hotel has that arranged for you too with top name entertainers performing for you at the hotel. Need to shop? Yes the hotels provide plenty of that for you as well with clothing, jewelry and more from top name retailers. Hungry? Your hotel has many restaurants located there with a wide array of excellent food choices. The hotel restaurants provide everything from casual to fine dining and even buffet style dining. You will even find that one of the restaurants inside the themed hotels match the theme, for example an Italian Restaurant at The Venetian.
We discovered what they say is true, Las Vegas is the Entertainment Capital of the World.
We did finally find our way out of our hotel and toured the Strip. It was late at night but Las Vegas is also known as the city that never sleeps. The Strip was active even after midnight. We witnessed that the activities really are endless. If you enjoy heights there is The Highroller which is the world’s largest observation wheel or you can bungee jump from the Stratosphere. If you are looking for entertainment there are more than 100 shows happening nightly. You can choose shows that include singing, dancing, comedy, and magic. There are also several adult only shows as well. If you are feeling romantic or nostalgic you can take a Gondola ride at The Venetian Hotel or watch the fountains dance to the music at The Bellagio Hotel. The variety of what to do in Las Vegas is amazing.
Our thoughts about how long to stay in Las Vegas really depends on how much entertainment you choose. There are so many excellent day trips from Las Vegas including the Grand Canyon West Rim tour, Hoover Dam, Red Rock Canyon Tour, a Cruise on Lake Mead, or Helicopter Tour of the Grand Canyon just to name a few. The choices really are endless. We decided to incorporate our trip to Las Vegas with a side trip to San Diego and visit Disneyland located in Anaheim, California.
